6. Look for the "grade point average" found under the table [the table is your individual module grades]

MARKING CRITERIA

-Visual grammar i.e. technical aspect, composition, design, use of colour
-Visual Articulation of their intended message. (Consider your audience and their reaction when they view your work.)

Progressive works

-10 thumbnails and 3 color tests (3” x 4”).
-During this progressive stage you need to present a substantial amount of research materials, your ideas development, your thumbnails sketches, value studies & color tests in your sketch book.
-They have to be approved by your tutor-in-charge before you start with your Final work.
-You need to put in enough hours to earn this 20%. If you have put in very min. number of hours in your work, you will deserve only very min. percentage of points.
-Your tutor-in-charge will grade you progressively based on the amount of effort you have put in during this stage.

Final drawing

-will derive from your research drawing or thumbnails sketches and many, many value studies
-As soon as your tutor-in-charge has approved your concept, you will need to transfer your final concept into a A4 final drawing with the complete value studies.

PORTFOLIO

-An A3-size portfolio consisting mainly student’s personal outstanding sketches or computer illustrations pertaining to the course are to be included in this portfolio.
-Execute professional layout planning when putting together a cohesive and impressive presentation for this part of the
-PRESENTATION
-Presentation/Assessment date:
30th Aug and 31st Aug, 9:00am to 5:00pm (see posted schedule)
-Be there half and hour before your allocated time slot. Do not be late or absent for your presentation.

**There will not be any make-up session as the schedule is extremely tight.**

FINAL DELIVERABLES

Late Submission are not entertained and an “F” will be the final grade.

1. Container – cleanser, moisturizer, water bottle, etc.
2. Furniture – chair, table, cupboard, etc.
3. Fabric – handkerchief, t-shirt, socks, etc. (need to see folds)
4. Fruit – apple, orange, pear, etc.
5. Flower - orchid, rose, lily, etc.

The objects chosen must be real. Representations e.g. in the form of toys or home decoration etc. are not acceptable. You may wish to remove any labels/stickers for more concentration on the form itself.
Observe where the light source is, highlight, crest shadow, reflected light and cast shadow. Include textures of the object if any.

Gentle reminder..
There's no lecture on friday. Please watch the video "Fundamentals of Drawing" at our school library before your next week's lesson.

For this coming weekend's homework, draw and shade 5 objects (each on a single page) from the groups listed in the PDF.
Best if place few sheets of white paper and a light source for the studies. See below for example.
This makes it easier to spot the light and shadows!

Recall the talk we've had about our upcoming studio project 1 that starts next semester by Miss Wendy? Yup. You have to prepare it anyway so I might as well juz say it :D

-labelled with your name and admin number
-remove the price tag*
-most recommended to have a title page for the file with your own design
-Your work printed out on a decent piece of A3 sized paper
-Your work muz have a work description on it somewhere [e.g. at the bottom corner of your work]
-There has to be a minimum of 10 pieces of YOUR OWN WORK

The Work:
-CANNOT be copied or be wholely derived from other sources
-HAS TO BE PRINTED, no originals in that file of yours thank you very much
-Cannot be the work that you have done during school time [as in assignments and stuff]
-Has to look presentable [I mean, of course isnt it?]

DM1111 Color Theory : Assignment #1 - [Part 1]
“9-STEP GREY VALUE CHART”
The Value Chart is made up of 9 different values of grey. You will paint a series of swatches from white to black. The tonal difference between the steps should be of equal percentage.

Each swatch should be of 1” x 1” [inch].
Lay them down from white at the top to Black at the bottom.
It is very important to mount these swatches carefully. Neatly cut and stuck on the page.

Submission
Submission Date: Week 3 [30th Apr – 5th May] – In Class

Each assignment should be submitted in a clear plastic sheet, with the grading sheet attached to the back.

Please fill in all the necessary fields in the grading sheet. Eg. Name, Admin no. Date, Assignment name etc.

Home Work --- Week 2

1) Weekly Inspiring Image Collection & Expression:

Week 2: Self Expression Profile 2 – ‘The Creature’

a) Objective: Seeing Things w/ an Inspiring Focus

You need to collect (& paste) at least 5 pages of inspiring images of the above profile for your Idea Book.

Use found (internet & used magazines) & self taken images (photos) as your inspiring images. Note: be very sure that not only should they fit your * interpretation of this profile; THEY MUST also BE INSPIRING TO YOU!!

*interpretation: You need to define the Self Expression Profile of ‘The Creature’ w/ your own interpretation, or just use mine, ie ‘FORM that is given New & Higher Life’. Then you need to search (& paste) images by using that ‘attitude of seeing’.

You can have expansion of ‘other images’ included, but you must write down their definitions’.

b) Objective: Expressing Inspiring Subjects

Also, use 1 or more pages to interpret & express any inspiring topic(s) presented in the week 2 lecture:

1) World Vision about the 2 types of humans,
2) The Creators,
3) Self Expression Profile 2 – ‘The Creature’
4) & any other direct / indirect topics from this lecture

During the lecture, you can take down side-notes using writings & drawings of topics that inspires you. You can & should use your own interpretation to express these topics. There is no real right or wrong, but only whether it’s appropriate.

You can use your found / recorded images to present, explain, define, redefine, express… these topics. Depends on what you do in your Idea Book, your is graded on your
1) focus level during the lecture,
2) association ability as you collect images,
3) manipulation ability when you change parts to express,
4) inspiration & motivation level for how much you have expanded your expression,
5) creative imagination power as you interpret…..

(pls organise your Idea Book by marking / tagging your pages by week 1, week 2…& so on )

2) Weekly Inspiring Image Archiving

Create a file (S. E. Profile 1 – The Born Alive Self) in your computer to collect / save at least 10 inspiring images that expresses your Born Alive Self (Images can be the same as those being used in your Idea Book). This, together w/ other inspiring images of other weekly S. E. Profiles, will need to be submitted in a CD at the end of the module.

Please do this every week as this is a weekly routine for all students of this module.

Objectives : To be more sensitive with the quality of lines
and thickness.

Deadline : Week 02 class (coming Thursday or Friday)

Do a series of line exercise using your technical pens (0.1mm, 0.3mm,
0.5mm and 0.8mm), A4 layout pad and section pad(try out), as shown in the
lecture.

Techniques to be done are:-
1.Stippling,
2.Hatching,
3.Cross-hatching,
4.Wavy lines,
5.Zigzag lines, and
6.another 3 freestyle lines (of your own)

Every technique used must have at least 3 densities and drawn in a
(2cm width x 6cm height) area.

Each of these techniques must be shown in all 4 different thickness of
the technical pens.

All drawings should be done on layout pad, in portrait format.

In this assignment, you are required to create an advertisement using the collage technique.

Objectives
To translate an idea into visual form, an advertisement. Consider how you can convey your message in this advertisement and how to attract consumer’s attention .

Considerations
1) What is your product? (e.g. Nike )
2) What is the slogan? (e.g. Just Do It)
3) Who is your target audience?
4) What is your selling point/ theme/ message?

Deliverables - One
3 thumbnail sketches

􀂃 Sketch out 3 different thumbnails to illustrate the product you are advertising. Keeping in mind your target audience and the selling point of your product. It should include your product name and roduct slogan.

(Your idea must be approved before proceeding to work on your collage.)
